하루살이는 하루밖에 못 살 정도로 수명이 짧다고 해서 붙은 이름이다.

하루살이 is named because its lifespan is as short as a day.

그러나 하루살이 애벌레는 성충이 되기 위해 약 1년을 물속에 살고 성충이 되어서는 1~2주 정도 산다.

However its larva lives underwater for about a year to become an imago and after becoming imago, it lives about 1~2 weeks.

하루살이 애벌레는 물속에 가라앉은 나뭇잎 등을 먹고 살지만 성충이 되면 입이 퇴화한다.

the larva lives by eating things such as leaves that sunk into the water, but once it becomes an imago, its mouth degenerates.

이런 까닭에 성충은 애벌레 때 몸속에 저장해 둔 영양분을 소모할 뿐 따로 먹이를 섭취하지 못한다.

That is why the imago can only consume nutrients that it saved when it was a larva, but it cannot fee itself anymore.
